Photosynthesis

• ATP is an energy carrier
• ATP - Adenosine Triphosphate
• NADPH - Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate
• ADP - Adenosine Disosphate
• NADP+ - Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate
• NADH and NADPH are proton and high energy electron carriers
• The light stage only occurs in the presence of light
• The dark stage occurs in the stroma of the chloroplast
• The dark stage does not need light to take place but it requires the products of the light stage (ATP and NADPH)
• Pathway 1 is know as cyclic photophosphorylation
• Pathway 2 is known as non cyclic photophorylation
• the end products of pathway 2 are ATP, NADPH AND oxygen
• The splitting of water by light is called photolysis
