Antituberculosis medications are agents used to treat tuberculosis, a disease caused by the bacteria
Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Antituberculosis medications act mainly by preventing the production of
mycolic acid
and the
synthesis
of this
cell wall.
TB therapy is done in two phases.
The initial phase consists of daily doses of
isoniazid
,
rifampin
,
pyrazinamide
, and
ethambutol
for
two months.
only
rifampin
and
isoniazid
for
four months.
For HIV-positive patients, the only change that has to be made is to replace
rifampin
for

during the whole therapy.
