• In 1961 there were less that 5,000 Italians in England and Wales and by 1901 there were 20,000
• What was the main reason for Italian migration?

  They wanted to avoid warfare between Italian states as it unified (completed 1861)
• Britain had a very prosperous agriculture in comparison to Italy. It was also much healthier as Italy had outbreaks of typhus and cholera
