Development Dynamics

• HDI stands for human development index and indicators are life expectancy, GDP, literacy rate 
• Developing, emerging and developed
• (Emerging – BRIC – Brazil, Russia, India, China)
• A single development indicator is a countries GDP
• A composite development indicator is a countries HDI
• Development is hard to measure as there are many different components and living factors.
• Some countries have barriers when it comes to development and progression. These barriers factor in:

  Economic terms e.g. types of trade

  Social terms e.g. impact of little education

  Environmental terms e.g. changing climate
• The Human Development Index (HDI) measures the average achievements in three basic dimensions of human development: a long and healthy life, access to knowledge and a decent standard of living.
• IGO stands for Inter-Governmental Organisations which are large and expensive scheme which involve oversea loans with banks and agencies from all different countries working together.
• NGO stands for Non-Governmental organisations which involve charities and universities.
• The Corruption Perception Index uses a scale from 100 (honest) to 0 (highly corrupt). In corrupt countries invested money is likely used to bribe officials, or purchase weapons. ​

• Economic development - measure of a country's wealth
• Social development - access the population has to schooling, healthcare, sanitation etc.
• Political development - how well run the country is and the corruption index
• Maternal mortality rate - number of mothers per 100,000 who die in childbirth
• Fertility rate - average number of births per woman
• GDP per capita - total money produced by a country divided equally among the population
• Birth rate - number of births per year per 1000
• Death rate - number of deaths per year per 1000
• Infant mortality - number of children per year out of every 1000 born alive who die before the age of one
• adult literacy - number of people who can read/write per 10 people
• Population density - the amount of people living in a certain area
