  • The Cardiovascular System:
    • The cardiovascular system (CVS) at its most basic consists of the heart and blood vessels
    • The primary concern of this system is to:
    • Deliver oxygenated blood and nutrients to the tissues of the body; most notably the central nervous system (CNS), renal system and the myocardium itself
    • Remove metabolic by-products, notably CO2 which is excreted by the lungs
    • Hence the CVS functions in close association with the pulmonary system
