1858 - river Thames falls to low water levels, parliament halts as a result as sewage is in the river, made it clear that London needed a modern sewage system
Thomas Faraday sailed the river and wrote a report about its filth, Joseph Bazalgette was employed to build London a sewer network
Bazalgette made 83 miles of main underground sewers connecting to a network of 1100 miles of sewers to connect the whole city. pumping stations were built to drive sewage out of the city, which satisfied politicians but didn't lead to any new laws/reforms
