• By 1922 the nazi party has 6000 members, rising to 50000 two years later

• Following the Munich putsch Hitler was arrested and the Nazi party was banned

• By 1932 6 million people were unemployed
• By 1932 the SA numbered 600,000
• Communists gained 100 seats in Nov 1932 elections
• Franz Von Papen made chancellor in 1932
• In jul 1932 the Nazis gained 230 seats, but in Nov 1932 it fell to 196 seats
• Hindenburg refused to appoint Hitler as chancellor
• In Jan 1933 Von Papen and Hitler agreed Hitler should lead a gov as chancellor with Von Papen as vice chancellor
• On Jan 1933 Hindenburg invited hitler to be chancellor
