  • The respiratory system is responsible for taking oxygen from the air and getting it into the cells.
  • The structures that make up the lungs are the trachea, bronchioles, alveoli, bronchus and diaphragm.
  • The alveoli are where gas exhange takes place.
  • The oxygen we breath in from the air enters into the blood at the lungs, and carbon dioxide leaves the blood at the lungs and we breathe it out.
  • Exercise changes breathing rate because your muscles work harder, you use more oxygen and produce more carbon dioxide.
