Classical Conditioning

• Explains attachment similarly to Pavlov's dog experiment - classical conditioning

  Baby learns to associate caregiver ( usually mother ) with pleasure

  Baby gets pleasure from food which is where the association comes from
• Drive Reduction

  Primary Drive - hunger / desire to eat ( innate biological drive )

  Secondary Drive - Attachment ( caregiver associated with reduction in hunger / primary drive )
