Operant Conditioning

• Operant Conditioning explains why babies cry for comfort ( vital behaviour in attachment building )
• Crying leads to a response from caregiver leading to crying being reinforced

  Positive reinforcement as baby is receiving something nice

  Caregiver also receives reinforcement as baby stops crying

  Negative reinforcement as they are removing something unpleasant

  Mutual reinforcement strengthens attachment
