• BRIXTON RACE RIOTS

  10 April 1981 rioters fought the police for 3 days and the main trigger for this was the police brutality black people felt they had been facing.

  More than 300 were injured and £7.5 million damage was caused

  Tensions were rising before the riot broke out as police used the SUS law, leading to black people being targeted in stop and searches. Police were also exempt from Race Relations Act 1976, and the black community felt persecuted

  Friday 22 June 2001 a fight broke out between Asian and white drug dealers. White youths subsequently attacked an Asian taxi driver with a hammer. This act ked to violent altercations between the white and Asian communities within Burnley
