Controlling blood glucose levels

    Cards (6)

    • What happens to blood glucose levels after eating carbohydrates?
      They increase.
    • How is glucose removed from the blood?
The pancreas makes insulin which makes the glucose move into the cells of the liver and muscles. It can be stored as glycogen (which is insoluble).
    • What is it used for?
To do respiration and release energy.
    • What organ controls the blood glucose levels?
      Pancreas.
    • What hormone does it use to do this?
      Insulin.
    • When the blood glucose level gets too high the pancreas detects the change. It will release the hormone insulin which makes glucose move out of the blood and into cells. In the cells of the liver and liver, this glucose is converted into glycogen, and is stored.
