    Vague connotations, person not yet mentioned until inspectors final speech, shows how often those in society are suppressed until the right people are given a voice

    Hellish imagery, warns the consequence of ignorance and arrogance. Implies that selfishness will result in the teaching of hellfire

    gory imagery which is similar to how Eva was described as being ‘burnt inside out’, therefore reinforces the message of what goes around comes back around. shows that at the end social class is worthless and everyone is simply human

    ambiguous connotations, inspector is not defined by what he wears as it holds no indication of social class. He is a barrier between the proletariat’s and the aristocracy as he shows no bias through his clothing

    Similar to Mrs Birling, the inspector too has duties, however he doesn’t misuse his power and instead holds those who do, accountable.

    colloquial language, creates a stark contrast with the gory imagery, perhaps symbolic of how Birlings never physically killed her but metaphorically ‘burnt her from the inside out’ by misusing their power

    Brighter perhaps suggests omnipresence or being put beneath a microscope and viewed. Showed how Birling household is finally held accountable

    Mr birlings is ironic and full od capitalist folly. his ignorance and lack of change show him to seem idiotic while the inspectors stationary attitude towards class show him as the opposite
