  • what is the method?
    1. crush the food and add distilled water
    2. to test for starch: iodine turns from orange -> black
    3. to test for sugars: Benedict solution turns from blue -> green -> yellow -> red when heated in a water bath
    4. to test for protein: biurets reagent turns from blue -> purple
    5. to test for lipids(fats): use cold ethanol then mix with water and will turn cloudy
