Mitosis: Stage 2 Cell Division

• The prophase is the first phase of Mitosis:

  • Chromatin is condensed into chromosomes
  • Centrioles move towards cell poles
  • nucleolus disappears
  • nucleus breaks apart
  • Spindle Fibre forms and attaches to chromosomes

  
• The metaphase is the second phase of Mitosis:

  • Chromosomes line up along the metaphase plate (equatorial plate)
  • nuclear envelope is gone
  • sister chromatids = 1 chromosome

  
• The Anaphase is the third phase of Mitosis:

  • Chromosomes separate into sister chromatids
  • Sister chromatids move to each pole on a spindle fibre after centromere dissolves

  
• The Telophase is the final Phase of Mitosis:

  • Spindle Fibre disappears
  • Nuclear Envelope reforms
  • Chromosomes start to unwind into Chromatin
  • Two nuclei per cell
