  • people were expected to provide for themselves, support was limited
  • British society was split into the class system

  • Labour Party = 1906 - represent the working class
  • only men could properly vote
  • women were controlled by their husbands
  • not as much government help - people had to use charities (Brumley Women's Charity Organisation) - which were important
  • heading towards WW1 - tension between European Countries
  • after the war many people questioned the leadership of those in power
