The Comprehensive School System (1965)

• The Comprehensive School System aimed to overcome the class divide of the tripartite system and make education more meritocratic
• The Tripartite System was not inclusive and was a selective policy (schools selected students)
• The Comprehensive School System made education no longer selective
• However, the Comprehensive School System was criticised for reproducing class division through streaming
• 1965- Comprehensive Schools - Stopping selection at 11 and move towards comprehensive education. It was not compulsory but funding would be withdrawn from schools that did not take part
