• strength through joy was to try make people happy at work so they would work better. gave loyal workers days off and holidays
• DAF gave young men jobs to reduce unemployment
• women and jews were hid from unemployment records
• the new plan in 1933 was to get rid of the Rentenmark and replace it with the Reichsmark
• • the SS were originally established as an elite bodyguard for hitler in 1925- it came to dominate the police state
• in 1929 himmler became the head of the SS and in 1931 he created the SD which was the secret intelligence wing
• in 1934 himmler took control of police including the gestapo in Prussia
• • the gestapo was the secret police state
  • its role was to find opponents of the nazi and arrest them, they would then be sent to concentration camps
