• Monarchy - have a king, a hereditary position with absolute power, and they traditionally rule a kingdom or empire
• Dictator - someone with absolute power obtained by force and rule by oppression
• Democracy - when people rule directly or elect officials to rule on their behalf
• Direct Democracy - All voters meet in one place to make laws and decide what actions to take
• Representative Democracy - people elect rulers to carry on the work of the government
• Republic - people agree to be led by leaders
• Constitution - a written plan of government
• Declaration of Independence - established us as a separate nation, but did establish a government
