  • Powers of stop and search – Section 1 PACE 1984 
    Where a Police constable has reasonable grounds for suspecting that he/she will find stolen or prohibited articles. He/she may search person/s or vehicle/s or anything in or on vehicle/s for stolen or prohibited articles and may detain person/s or vehicle/s for that purpose.

    When not at their place of abode has with them any article for use in the course of, or in connection with any burglary, theft or TWOC
  • Offensive Weapons Section 1 - Prevention of Crime Act 1953
    Any person without lawful authority or reasonable excuse (proof of which shall lie on them) has with them in any public place any offensive weapon shall be guilty of an offence.                                                                        
    Any offensive weapon is any article made or adapted for causing injury or intended by the person having it with them for such use by him or another person

    Any person who has with them any article, which has a blade OR is sharply pointed in a public place without good reason or lawful authority, commits an offence.

    A constable may search a person who has been arrested at a place other than a police station, if the constable has reasonable grounds for believing the arrested person may:
    present a danger to themselves or others or have concealed on them an implement they might use to assist them to escape from lawful custody or have concealed on them anything that might be evidence relating to an offence
