  • Near the brain
  • Master gland that secretes hormones and also stimulates other glands to secrete hormones too
• What is the function of the thyroid gland?

  • Located near the neck
  • Controls metabolic rate, heart rate and temp by releasing thyroxine
• What is the function of the pancreas?

  • Releases insulin which controls blood glucose levels
• What is the function of the adrenal glands?

  • Controls flight or fight response by releasing adrenaline
• What is the function of the ovary

  • Releases oestrogen which controls menstrual cycle and female secondary sex characteristics
• What is the function of the testes?

  • Releases testosterone which is involved in sperm production and male secondary sex characteristics
• What is the role of blood in the endocrine system?

  • Transfers hormone to target gland/tissue where it brings about a response
