psych and the economy

• What is meant by psychology’s effect on the economy?

  The economy refers to the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services.
• Public services- 

  Has helped the development of institutions such as the NHS (in terms of treatments, illnesses (OCD= SSRI’s) etc. to provide services and to get people back out into society), education system, prison system.
• Productivity-

  Psychology understanding things such as absenteeism (time of work) and employment. Women have more time off work in terms of maternity leave as research has shown the mother/primary caregiver is important for a child’s development.
• Attachment- economic status of mothers
• Social influence- healthy eating/smoking/drinking, doing what others do and what is promoted in the media.
• Psychopathology- treatment/drug therapies, shows that they work in hope to decrease pressure on the NHS,
• Memory- using the cognitive interview to get the most accurate eyewitness testimony.
