Freedom of religion as a human right in European law

• Article 18 of the Universal declaration of Human Rights
• 'Everyone had the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion'
• 'In public or private, to manifest his religion or belief, in worship, teaching, practice and observance'
• It is also part of the British law within the 1988 Human Rights Act
• It allows religion pluralism by making illegal any attempt to ban or restrict the practice of religion
