  • The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
    (WHMIS) is a comprehensive system for providing health and
    safety information for chemicals in the workplace
  • Flame: fire hazard and can ignite easily.
    • Precautions:
    • keep products away from heat, hot surfaces, or open flames
    • do not smoke in close proximity
    • use only in well-ventilated areas
  • Corrosion: can damage or destroy metals. It can cause bodily damage including burns, scarring, vision loss, etc.
    • Precautions:
    • wear protective equipment
    • inspect for leaks or damages
    • wash your hand thoroughly
    • NEVER mix with hot water
  • Biohazardous Infectious Materials: can cause infection or disease in humans or animals.
    • Precautions:
    • only handled by workers who have received speciliazed training
    • use ultraviolet light for disinfection
  • Exclamation Mark: cause less serious health effects (eye irritation, skin allergy reactions, etc.). Also indicates the substance may damage the ozone layer.
