  • spend a lot of time considering the reasons behind this and how to move forward
  • internal thought processes of a perosn before confronting
• social phase

  • involving friends and family and make their distress public
  • who will intervene, take sides and offer advice
  • according to duck once it reaches this stage is is more difficult for a couple to mend their relationship
• grave dressing

  when the dissolution ofthe relationship has happened both construct their version of why it broke down, usually minimising their faults and making themselves seem trustworthy and loyal
