• ad de jongh (2006) found that 73% of people with a fear of dental treatment had a traumatic event, mostly involving dentistry, compared to a control group of people with low dental anxiety where only 21% had experienced a traumatic event
• there are ethical uses with using the behavioural explanation of phobias because of the methodological issues surrounding watson and rayners (1920) experiment. this means that in today's time you could not replicate the results which is a limitation so the two process model cannot be and explanation because it is not an ethical way to explain how phobias are aquired.
• the two process model cannot expain biological and cognitive explanations of phobias such as irrational thoughts about the phobic stimulus which means it is only a partial explanation of phobias
