Neurons and Synapses

Cards (4)

  • Most of the 100 billion neurons in your body are located in your brain; they communicate electrically and chemically.
  • Sensory Neuron
This neuron receives information from the environment and transmits it from the PNS towards the CNS. They have long dendrites and short axons.
  • Relay Neuron

These connect sensory neurons to motor neurons or other relay neurons. They have short dendrites and short axons. They can carry information to and from the CNS.
  • Motor Neuron
This neuron connects the CNS to effectors (glands or muscles). They have short dendrites and long axons. They carry information from the CNS towards the PNS.
