      A social construction is an idea that is ‘constructed’ or ‘made’ through culture or social practice and does not occur naturally

      Changes over time and varies between countries and cultures and depends on the context of the behaviour.

      The practice of having more than one wife or husband at the same time.
    • What is Polygyny?
      The practice of a man having two or more wives.

      The practice of a woman having two or more husbands.

      Most societies where polygamy is legal are Muslim majority countries. (India, Malaysia, the Phillipines, Singapore and Sri Lanka)
    • Where is Polygamy illegal?
      Polygamy is against the law in most countries even many Muslim countries. (Turkey, Tunisia, United Kingdom (Bigamy))
    • Why does the law around polygamy vary between cultures?
      Religion - The Quran permits muslim men to take up to four wives.
      The church of Jesus Christ of LDS allowed its members to practice polygamy until 1890. Some splinter groups still continue to practice it.
      Tradition - It has traditionally been practiced in some African societies. However, it has declined recently.
