Projectile Motion

• Projectiles are objects that move under the influence of gravity
• There are no forces acting on projectiles in the horizontal direction
• The horizontal velocity of projectiles stays constant
• The area under a horizontal velocity time graph for a projectile is equal to the horizontal distance (the range)
• The vertical force acting on projectiles is the downward force due to gravity
• The vertical velocity of projectiles:

  • increase when falling
  • decrease when rising
• The vertical height travelled by a projectile equals the area under the vertical velocity-time graph.
