Exclusivism

• Limits God's potential for forgiveness and salvation 


  If God is free to do whatever he chooses, it is illogical to say that he cannot act through other religions or none
• The standard argument based on John 14:6 is circular 


  • cannot offer independent justification of exclusivism
  • New Testament a product of the church - commitment of those who are already members
• Depends heavily on a literal and simple interpretation which gives it authority 


  • New Testament to reflect the context and why its written
  • Difficult to maintain a position in which the Bible can be the basis for any exclusive claim
• Binds God to a particular interpretation of scripture 


  Justify on the basis of Bible texts but this gives the Bible priority in deciding who is for heaven hell
