When we exercise , the body needs more oxygen so the breathing rate and volume increases
Why does the breathing rate and volume increase when exercising?
To get more oxygen in the blood
muscles need energy from respiration to contract. when we exercise our muscles contract more frequently so more energy needed . This energy comes from respiration
When we exercise our heart rate increases to get the oxygenated blood around the body faster - removes CO2 more quickly
Anaerobic respiration is not the best way to transfer energy from glucose as lactic acid build up in muscles - gets painful
Long periods of exercise can cause muscle fatigue- muscles get tired and stop contracting efficiently
What’s oxygen debt?
amount of extra oxygen your body needs to react with the built up lactic acid and remove from the cells
