  • Media is the plural frame for medium
  • Media - a method of passing on something, especially a channel of
    correspondence.
  • Media - conveying life through books, radio, and film.
  • Oral Communication - Around for more than 200,000 years. Includes hand
    symbolisms and the like.
  • Script – Early humans drew what they saw during their time. Symbols eventually became letters and other forms of characters being used today.
  • Printing Press – Literacy became possible and other forms of communication were being recorded and transmitted from one
    place to another.
  • Electronic Media – Telegraph, Morse Code, Radio, Film and Television.
  • Digital Media – Modern Phones, Internet and social media. Allowed people who are born away from their home country to know the language and culture of origin.
  • Educational System – The advent of the internet has modernized the system of education. The internet has allowed easy research for students wherein the availability of information is available online.
  • Political System – Elections have been made easier. Automated elections instead of traditional pen and paper.
  • Arts – Special effects in movies were introduced. It can now be made via a personal computer in contrast to the traditional way of painting and molding.
  • Industrial Production – Modern technology has allowed
    the production of goods to be faster.
  • Global Politics was made possible. The decision of one country greatly affects others. Global conflict greatly affects the prices of commodities in the market. Current events in influential countries greatly affect the stock market.
  • Human character is greatly changed overtime - The
    conservative way of living is now turned into a more liberalized
    one
  • Dialects and social gatherings may promote the political
    interests of states : Neutral countries may try to mediate
    and hold peace talks concerning the armed conflict between
    Russia and Ukraine in spite of their cultural difference.
  • Cultural Differentialism – Cultures are different, strong and resilient. What
    media portrays in one country may be considered immoral/illegal in another.
  • Cultural Hybridity – Globalization will bring about an increasing blend or
    mixtures of cultures. America is the perfect example of cultural hybridity.
    People from all races live in America.
  • Cultural Convergence - Globalization will bring about a growing sameness
    of culture. The adoption of one culture as the dominant world culture. This
    outcome will lead to cultural imperialism.
  • Colonial mentality: Products coming from the west that are shown on the
    media/social media is heavily wanted by Filipinos. (Produces a downward
    slope on our GDP and GNP).
  • Cold war was a proxy war between the US and Russia. Countries that were
    funded by America adopted American Culture while Russia also heavily
    influenced countries that it supported. (E.G.: South and North Korea during
    Vietnam War. North was supported by Russia and China. South was supported by US and Anti-communist countries).
  • CULTURAL IMPERIALISM THEORY - Suggests that audiences across the world are heavily affected by media messages coming from the Western Industrialized countries. Its most important influence is the argument that international communication flows, processes, and effects are permeated by power.
