Chemical signals released by an animal communicate information and affect the behaviour of other animals of the same species. Specifically used for attracting mates.
AIM : To investigate is AND and EST signal gender and mate perception
PROCEDURE : 140 hetro adults. Two computer based tasks on two separate days. They were exposed to AND and EST with dove oil on one day then just dove oil the next. The first task was showing 5 gender neutral faces and then asked to indicate the genders. The second task was to rate photos of the opposite sex 1 to 10.
RESULT : There was no difference with gendering the faces and rating the photos.
CONCLUSION : AND and EST don't act as human pheromones.
PROCEDURE : 96 people in 4 groups, hetro men, hetro women, homo men and homo women, 24 in each. Participates were shown a human shaped light projection. The gender was unclear and they had to label them a gender. While doing this they scents of male or femalepheromones were pumped into the room, found in urine or sweat.
RESULT : Participants responded to the genders they were attracted to which they labelled as.
CONCLUSION : Pheromones do exist and they alert possible mating
