      • Active process in which arteriolar dilation leads to increased blood flow
    • Affected tissues turn red - erythema
    • Acute Appendicitis
      ETIOLOGY: overt luminal obstruction; 50-80% due to fecalith
    • Acute Appendicitis —PATHOGENESIS: initiated by progressive increases in intraluminal pressure – compromise blood flow – overt luminal obstruction
    • Chronic Passive Congestion (CPC) of the Lungs
      Etiology: Left-sided heart failure
    • Thrombosis
      • Pathologic counterpart of hemostasis
    • Blood clot (thrombus) formation in an intact blood vessel— thrombosis
    • Most common is detached thrombus – thromboembolus
    • Embolus — Detached intravascular solid, liquid or gaseous mass, carried by blood to a site distant from its point of origin
