Potential Difference

• All charged particles are surrounded by an electric field
• When a charged particle is placed in an electric field, the field applies a force to the charged particle
• When a charged particle is moved in an electric field, work is done
• Electric field lines closer together show a stronger electric field
• Potential difference (voltage) is the energy per coulomb of charge
• Potential difference of a supply is the energy given to each coulomb of charge passing through the supply
• Potential difference of a component is the energy converted per coulomb of charge passing through the component
