Topic 10- Electricity and Circuits

    Cards (9)

    • What is the UKs domestic supply?
Alternating current, at 50Hz and 230V
    • What are the 3 wires and their p.d in a plug?
      Live-brown-230V
      Neutral-blue-0V
      Earth-green/yellow-0V
    • What's the dangers in connecting the live and earth wires?
A large current can flow and the fuse will melt, deactivating the plug.
    • How are voltmeters and ammeters connected in a circuit?
Voltmeters are in parallel while ammeters are in series.
    • What is an electrical current?
Rate of flow of charge. Current in metals is a flow of electrons.
    • Describe the differences between series and parallel circuits
In parallel circuits, electrical components are connected alongside one another forming extra loops.
In series circuits, electrical components are connected one after another in a single loop.
    • What's the equation for charge?
      current x time
    • Whats the equation for potential difference?
      current x resistance
    • What is potential difference?
A measure of energy transferred between two points in a circuit. A potential difference of 1 volt means that 1 joule of work is done per coulomb of charge.
