3.4.1.3 Cardiac Output

• Cardiac Output = Stroke Volume x Heart Rate
• Cardiac Output (CO) = the volume of blood pumped (RV+LV) per unit of time
• Cardiac output increases when exercising
• Heart rate = number of times a heart beats/number of cardiac cycles per minute
• Stroke volume = volume of blood pumped out of the left ventricle during one cardiac cycle
