    • 27 Feb 1933: Reichstag Fire allowed Nazis to target communists, with Fire Laws removing civil liberties, increasing censorship, and giving police more powers.
    • 1933: Concordat ensured Nazi non-interference with the Catholic Church if it avoided criticism, allowing Nazis to eliminate the Catholic Centre Party.
    • 19 Aug 1934: Hindenburg dies and Hitler combines the offices of Chancellor and President to become Fuhrer.
    • 23 March 1933: Enabling Act - allowed Hitler to rule for 4 years without the approval of the Reichstag or decrees from Hindenburg.
    • 30 Jan 1933: Hitler becomes chancellor - in charge of daily running of the country. Hitler is also the leader of the largest party in the Reichstag.
