Subdecks (3)

Cards (33)

  • Cornea = transparent layer of the eye that refracts light to focus on the retina
  • Pupil = the hole in the middle of the iris which controls the quantity of light entering the eye
  • Aqueous Humour = transparent fluid which maintains the shape of the eyeball and focuses light into the eye
  • Iris = the colored part of the eye that controls the size of the pupil
  • Suspensory Ligament = strong fibres that holds the lens in place
  • Ciliary Muscle = contracts and relaxes to change the thickness of the eye lens
  • Eye lens = transparent and elastic convex lens that refracts light to focus it on the retina
  • Conjuctiva = transparent membrane that protects the front part of the sclera
  • Sclera = strong layer that maintains the shape of the eye and protects the eye from injury
  • Vitreous Humour = transparent jelly-like substance that maintains the shape of the eyeball and focuses light on the retina
  • Choroid = black layer that prevents reflection of light in the eye and supplies oxygen and nutrients to the eye
  • Blind Spot = part of the retina which is not sensitive to light ( no photoreceptors) and an exit point for all optic nerve fibres
  • Retina = layer containing photoreceptors, which detects light and produces nerve impulses
  • Yellow Spot = part of retina which is most sensitive to light (has many photoreceptors)
  • Optic Nerve = the nerve that carries impulses from the retina to the brain
