  • WHAT
    • Lalique was part of the Art Nouveau movement which went from 1890 - 1910.
    • Main characteristics of this were organic, curved and flowing forms relating to the female figure, nature and imagery from mythology such as serpents peacocks and butterflies.
  • WHERE
    • Mythical bust of the woman which morphs into the dragonfly tail, and in the organic, decorative patterns on the dragonfly wings.
  • WHY
    • Features create curving, whiplash lines which were very feminine and ornate, creating a luxurious and desirable piece of jewelry
    • Inspired by the time he spent with his grandparents in Champagne countryside as a young man. He liked to draw the nature he would see there, such as plants and dragonflies.
    • He would use his creative imagination to stylish his works and was selling paintings of flowers and insects on his early teens.
