Deism was a very popular approach of Christians to science in the eighteenth centuryage of reason and is still found today
Deism is the belief that a deity (God) 'set things off' (e.g. the Big Bang) and then left the universe to work according to the laws he created it with, but without acting on or influencing it any further
Most Christians today reject deism because it is not compatible with the doctrines commonly accepted by them, such as the Incarnation, the immanence of God in prayer and the miracles of Jesus seen in the Gospels
