  • Hemiola: when you are in three time and then by tying notes over the baseline it sounds like you’ve gone into two time. Common in baroque music
  • Polyrhythm: when two or more conflicting rhythms are heard at the same time
  • Rubato is being flexible with rhythm and tempo - lengthening notes and then returning to the original tempo
