Current Christian responses

• Young earth creationists and some old earth creationists reject Darwin;s theory of evolution totally. It is incompatible with the Genesis creation stories, which are the infallible word of God
• Some old earth creationists accept Darwin's theory of evolution in a diluted form. Evolution explains the development of simpler life forms, but humanity is the result of a special creation by God- humans are not descended from apes
• Michael Behe's version of Intelligent Design rejects evolution on the grounds of irreducible complexity. At a court trial over teaching creationism, he argued that some complex things like the bacterial flagellum would be unable to work if one part were removed, which means they could not have evolved. Most scientists dismiss his theory are poor science and as creationism in disguise
• Most Christians reject creationist views on the theory. They see natural selection as the way in which God works. Evolution works by the laws of nature and these laws derive from God
• Catholic thinking rejects creationist as harmful to both science and religion; it sees Christian beliefs and the theory of evolution as compatible
