• What does Baptism mean?

  • Greek word - 'baptizo' = to dip/dunk
• Water = spiritual cleansing
• Physical action = spiritual significance
• "I have baptised you with the water; but he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit - Mark 1:4-11
• "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit" - Matthew 26:16-20
• "Unless one is born of water and the spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God" - John 3:5-6
• For Catholics

  marks an irreversible spiritual change to a person's soul and has an effect on their eternal life
• For Baptists

  a symbol of the person's public commitment to the faith
