experiments always have a dependent and independent variable
independent variable- the one the experimenter manipulates (the thing that changes between the conditions the participants are placed into), it is assumed to have a direct effect on the dependent variable
the dependent variable is the one in which is measured
operationalization of variables- means making them measurable/quantifiable, we must use operationalization to ensure that variables are in a form that can be easily tested.
