  • Browser: A software that allows a user to view webpages
  • Internet Service Provider (ISP): A company that provides a connection to access the Internet.
  • HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP): The main protocol that governs the transmission of data using the internet.
  • Uniform Resource Locator (URL): the website address that is typed into the address bar, to identify a resource on the World Wide Web.
  • MAC address: A unique address given to a device on a network. It is provided by the manufacturer to the Network Interface Card (NIC) to access the network. It is static (does not change)
  • IP address: A unique address given to each device on a network. It is provided by the network. It can be dynamic (can change) or static (does not change)
  • HyperText Markup Language (HTML): A markup language used to create webpages, and is rendered by the web browser to display web pages.
  • HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS): It is a protocol, that means that the website uses SSL, and that data sent to and from the web server is encrypted.
  • Cookies: A small file stored by the web browser, that contains data about a user's preferences and personal details.
