  • Turbidity - the clarity of a fluid depending on the volume of suspended particles 
  • Hjulstrom curve shows clay and silt isn't deposited at slow speeds - turbidity. 
    • Deposition requires them to clump together 
    • Naturally repel each other so aren't deposited 
    • Clay and silts are found at estuaries and deltas 
    • Salt causes flocculation 
  • Observations made in flume tanks and rivers to show velocity changes. 
    • Increases make bedforms - ripple marks 
    • Low velocities result in flat beds
