      • This was in a beer hall hitler stoped the meeting and took kar to another room at held a gun to his head and demanded he joined the nazis

      • the leaders were arested by the SS and then shot
      • over the next cupple of days any threats made to hitler were killed by the SS
      • As a result the SS became hitlers and too comands from him
      • in august the army swore alegiance to hitler

      • 6 days before election Parliament was set of fire happened on the 27 th of February 1933
      • was done by a young duch man who supported the communist party
      • he was blamed to have stared the fire as well as the communist party
      • president declared a state of emergency across Germany
      • Hitler and the SS used this to suppress the communist party as the public backed them
      • the SA + SS beat up ,arrested or murdered 4000 communists driven by hitler communists are no longer a political threat

      • all political rights and freedoms were removed
      • all aspects of life were supervised and their was censorship
      • they would burn books in public
      • if you did not follow the idealist you were at risk of being arrested

      • Hitler thought that state government could be a source of Opposition so he took away their power
      • the gov in Berlin were appointed nazi commissioners they carried out Hitlers orders
      • in 1933 the nazi officials were appointed to the civil service
    • what are the charistics of the nazi party - police +law power 


      • Nazi police officers were oppointed
      • Goering made 40,000 SA+SS men auxiliary police
      • in 1934 peoples court were set up to try cases for treason in secret
      • in 1935 people could be tried for hostile acts even though they had not broke the law
      • Many people arrested and tried for treason
    • Methods which insured a terror state or induced fear 

      • The SS had unlimited power to hold people without trial and confiscate their property.  They also ran the concentration camps
      • The gestapo used any method like tapping phones to see who was against hitler
      • all the judges in courts were controled by the nazi party
      • the police were given unlimited power which made peoel scarred of them
      • The Gestapo also became feared because of they used torture to gain confessions when ‘questioning’ suspects.
      • people in concentration camps were made to do hard labour and were often tortured

      • if you joined you got an extra day of holidays and couldn't be sacked by your employer
      • But workers couldn't complain about the working conditions or ask for higher salaries
      • they couldn't leave the job with out asking the gov
      • all workers had a work book where it recorded the workers behaviour,time keeping and absence rate
    • economic policies - German labour service 

      • All men aged 19-23 had to work for the government for 6 months woman were later introduced to this and were given jobs in teaching or domestic services
      • The wages were low but workers got military style uniform made them feel the government was trying to help them
    • economic policies - strength through joy 

      • set up to control the leisure time of German people
      • it allowed them to go on holidays,organised events and more
      • they only got this if they worked hard so encouraged them too
      • Hitler offered German an affordable family car if they payed 5 marks per week which was a luxury but none resived a car
