Correlation

    Cards (3)

    • Experiment vs Correlation
      Experiment:
      • Tests for difference
      • IV changes and DV is measures
      • Establishes a cause and effect relationship
      Correlation:
      • Association or relationship
      • No manipulation of IV and co-variables are measured
      • Cant establish a cause and effect relationship
    • Correlation
      • Results are on a scattergram
      • Co-efficient of correlation (r) lies between 1 and -1
      • +1 means a perfect positive relationship
      • -1 means a perfect negative relationship
      • the closer it is to one, the stronger the relationship
    • Evaluation
      Advantages
-Strong correlations can be used as a test of reliability
-It can establish a relationship between 2 co-variables
      Disadvantages
-Cause and effect relationship cant be established as one doesnt necessarily cause the other
      -Only identifies linear relationships
