Virtue Ethics

• What was Aristotle concerned with?

  The good for society above the individual
• May be a courageous, noble act for someone to take their own life when ill
• Huge financial benefits to society if those who were 'unproductive' were euthanised
• Doesn't fit with virtues of patience/modesty
• Person not able to achieve eudaemonia then further living would seem pointless 


  courageous action
• A person achieving eudaemonia would have the wisdom and judgement to make the right decision
• Example of Anne and George 


  • George kills his wife Anne due to her strokes
  • Virtues of mercy and compassion make it a justifiable homicidal act
• Regret a strong indication of virtuous intention
